Only one team in the Pac-12 and five in the country have performed better against the point spread this season than Arizona. Before the Wildcats took USC to overtime as a three-touchdown underdog, they covered a nine-point line at Mississippi State and a 19-point spread against Washington. In six games, they have failed to cover once, as a heavy favorite at Stanford. That 5-1 mark against the spread is second to Oregon (5-0) within the conference, according to TeamRankings.com. (UNLV, Penn State, Oklahoma and Rutgers are also undefeated.)In the underdog role, the Wildcats are winless on the field but perfect against the spread. Will that streak continue this week? Ryan Beauregard, winemaker for Beauregard Vineyards in Santa Cruz, posted an excerpt from the excellent book, “Late Harvest: Wine History of the Santa Cruz Mountains,” written in 1983 by Michael Holland, on Facebook as he picked Coast Grade and Ben Lomond Ranch pinot noir last week, a full month later than last year. He noted that the book referred to 1982 thusly: “This season is a normal ripening season.”Indeed, we are back to times more typical of the 1990s and 2000s, before the heat spells got progressively more common, culminating in the plus 110-degree 10-day Labor Day scourge of 2022.Happy to harvest without the firedragon breathing down their necks, the Fogarty team began with pinot noir from Razorback Vineyard, as well as Swan clone pinot noir from Wills Cabin on Skyline, the first week of October. It will be grapes galore for the next two weeks, including Kings Mountain Vineyards pinot noir. Viticulturist Ken Swegles says he’s about 40% through harvest at Ascona on Skyline ...

Rockies attendance grows during worst season in franchise history

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 12:50:39 GMT

DENVER (KDVR) — Despite the Colorado Rockies breaking the franchise record for the most losses in a season and having the lowest-attended regular season game in 10 years, the team's overall turnout this year may have been higher than you think.Attendance at Coors Field never wavers. Maybe this is because Coors Field is ranked as having some of the best stadium food in the country or because of the cheap ticket prices. However, the team's lowest-attended games are still higher than other MLB teams' averages for the entire season. Is it really easier to hit a home run at Coors Field? Based on ESPN's MLB attendance records, the Rockies were ranked 14th out of 30 teams for average attendance in 2023. While this is higher than half the MLB teams, the Rockies usually hit in the top 10 for average attendance records. This is their lowest ranking since 2015 when they were also ranked 14th in the league. The attendance for the entire MLB increased by 9.1% this year compared to last year, a...

BRUSSELS — Tunisia returned EU cash amid escalating tensions between Brussels and Tunis over a controversial migrant deal.A Commission spokesperson confirmed to POLITICO the North African country returned €60 million of budget support delivered by the EU executive in September. This comes as a major blow to the controversial migrant deal signed by the European Commission with Tunisia in July that offered cash in exchange for help stemming migrant flows across the Mediterranean Sea to Europe.Tunisia gave back the money as a sign of its dissatisfaction toward the Commission. The North African country accused the EU executive of withholding more funds it had promised under the migrant agreement. Relations between Tunis and Brussels have collapsed since July as the EU punted on handing out the promised cash — worth €255 million — to the North African country, amid growing criticism over the funding. Tunis accused the bloc of pledging funding that originates in ongoing programs that pred...
