Hundreds of packages piled up this month behind a U.S. Postal Service counter where a lone clerk faced frustrated residents who hadn’t received mail for a week in the river town of Silt — the latest outbreak of problems intensifying in once-remote parts of Colorado.A prom dress failed to reach Buena Vista in time, the misdelivery of glass enamels ordered from Canada stalled work for an artist, and scientists at a high-elevation biological lab above Crested Butte sought alternatives to the USPS for handling time-sensitive material. From Steamboat Springs to Salida, western Colorado residents say they rely on the postal service as never before because Amazon and other delivery trucks often don’t deliver in mountain areas. It’s a matter of being included, residents say, as part of the global economy. But the USPS is mired in debt topping $144 billion and administrators are cutting costs, which may include closing “rural” facilities, according to a GAO report...“The Enchanters” is the latest hot novel by Colorado author James Ellroy, of “L.A. Freddy, who has shacked up with Pat Kennedy Lawford, digs into Marilyn’s past, only to discover she was a dope fiend and sex-crazed actress who would sleep with anybody — among her last conquests was the pizza-delivery man — and was fascinated with the crime and porno movie-making. Jack Kennedy isn’t exactly a choirboy either. At the same time he’s spreading nasty rumors about Monroe, Freddy is ...Taylor Swift is a fan and suddenly, so is everyone else. John Cooper Clarke Journeys from Manchester to the Moroccan: It felt like all of L.A.’s English residents were at the Moroccan Lounge on Saturday evening to see the Bard of Salford himself, Dr. John Cooper Clarke. The punk poet with the wild hair and wilder tongue released a string of visceral, hilarious albums in the late ’70s and ’80s — stories of northern English life told by a normal English man with a gift for weaving gold out of grit. Apparently, the mental translation isn’t...Latest news
