Published Mon, 10 Mar 2025 00:16:23 GMT

Five lightning-sparked fires were burning across more than 5,200 acres around southwestern Colorado on Thursday after expanding overnight — spewing smoke that prompted renewed air quality health alerts — and firefighters tasked with full suppression were counting on rain.“If all we get is wind and lightning, things could pick up. There’s some single-tree torching and it can look pretty active at times, mostly in the afternoons,” federal Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Niki Carpenter said at the Little Mesa fire, which was burning pinon, juniper and sage forest and grew to 414 acres southwest of Delta on the Dominguez Escalante National Conservation Area.Little Mesa fireAt two other fires north of Pagosa Springs, firefighters directed to squelch the Little Mesa fire were holding off due to difficult terrain and the intensity of flames.“That kind of fire isn’t safe for firefighters to go direct, so our strategy for suppression has been ‘contain and confine,’ &#...

What to watch as Sean Payton, Russell Wilson and Broncos take field for first time in preseason opener

Published Mon, 10 Mar 2025 00:16:23 GMT

The Broncos take the field for the first time under head coach Sean Payton on Friday night at Arizona. It’s just an exhibition, of course, but with a new regime in place, dozens of new players on the roster and several positions featuring wide-open races, there’s plenty of interesting story lines to keep an eye on in the blistering desert heat. Here are five of them. How do Russell Wilson and the starters look?Payton expects starters to play somewhere between 15-18 snaps, so maybe a couple of series for quarterback Russell Wilson and company. Touchdowns are great – Wilson and the top offense would gladly take a couple – but maybe more interesting will be if the group operates efficiently in and out of the huddle and looks crisp.“You want to get in there, and you want to see clean execution and timing,” Payton said. “Most importantly for...

Democracy survives and thrives on various opinions provided by and debates by political parties, civil society organizations, and individuals. However, if the opinions contain misinformation and disinformation with the intention to malign the opponent, it cannot help democracy flourish. Unfortunately, this is exactly what’s happening in Bangladesh - writes Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), an opposition political platform, prepared a list of 500 police personnel and sent that to foreign diplomats. These policemen of different ranks, BNP leaders alleged, were involved in human rights abuses and voting irregularities in Bangladesh’s national election held in late 2018. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, one of the standing committee members of BNP, told the media that the information would be presented to the international community. BNP claimed that most of these 500 policemen were working in the field level during the 2018 national election and got prom...
